On Wednesday, Chile, the host nation, defeated the defending champions, Uruguay, in the first quarter final of the 2015 Copa América ((en)) Spanish language: America Cup which was held in Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos stadium in Santiago, Chile.

La Roja had 80% possession of the ball in front of Uruguay. Two Uruguayan players were red carded in this match.

Mauricio Isla scored in the 81st minute, assisted by Jorge Valdívia, the only goal of the match. Cavani got his yellow card at the 29th by arguing with a linesman. 11 minutes later, Uruguayan defender Jorge Fucile was booked for clattering on Vargas. The first half ended with 0–0 score, and four players booked.

Cavani’s father Luis Cavani was arrested earlier this week over a Monday truck crash in which a 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed. Then, in the 63rd minute Chilean defender Jara provoked Cavani reportedly by putting his finger in Cavani’s anus. Cavani touched Jara’s face, and Jara fell to the ground causing Cavani to get a card. The Uruguayan team had only nine men left after Fucile received his second yellow card for a foul on Alexis Sánchez.

Called the “Carrie Bradshaw” of bloggers by the New York Times, Manhattanite New Yorker Stephanie Klein’s online musings in her personal blog, Greek Tragedy, has gained the attention of Hollywood and the book industry while it draws comparisons to former HBO television series, Sex and the City.

Since January 2004, Klein has written her blog which goes into the intimate details of her life as a 29-year-old professional divorced single woman living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, one of New York City’s most upscale neighborhoods. Since then her blog has become among the top 1 percent most-read blogs in the world, according to Technorati‘s “net attention” ratings system.

That popularity grabbed the attention of two international media conglomerates, News Corporation and NBC Universal. News Corp.’s HarperCollins book division struck a book deal with Klein valued at more than $500,000. The book is scheduled to debut in April 2006.

Comparisons to Sex and the City may continue, as NBC Universal is developing the blog-based book into a fictionalized weekly sitcom version of Klein’s life for its NBC television network.

U.S. Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham (RCA) pled guilty today to conspiring to take bribes in exchange for using his influence as a member of the House Appropriations Committee to help a defense contractor get business. In total he pled guilty to one count of income tax evasion and four counts of conspiracy, namely mail fraud, wire fraud, bribery of public official and accepting bribes. U.S. District judge Larry A. Burns scheduled Cunnigham to be sentenced on February 27. He is facing up to 10 years in prison and nearly $500,000 in fines, as well as forfeiture of unspecified amounts of cash and property.

In the court hearing, Cunningham admitted to accepting “bribes in exchange for performance of official duties” between “the year 2000 and June of 2005”, taking “both cash payments and payments in kind” and following up by “trying to influence the Defense Department”.

The federal investigation against Cunningham was triggered by his sale of his California residence to defense contractor Mitchell Wade in late 2003. However, Wade never moved in and sold the house at a $700,000 loss three quarters of a year later. At the same time Wade’s company MZM won tens of millions of dollars in defense contracts. Subsequent investigations discovered more questionable business transactions, including interactions with the defense contractor ADCS. In his plea agreement he testified that, among other charges, he “demanded, sought and received at least $2.4 million in illicit payments and benefits from his co-conspirators in various forms, including cash, checks, meals, travel, lodging, furnishings, antiques, rugs, yacht club fees, boat repairs and improvements, moving expenses, cars and boats.”

Cunningham announced his resignation after the hearing. In a written statement released by his law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP he declared “The truth is — I broke the law, concealed my conduct, and disgraced my high office. I know that I will forfeit my freedom, my reputation, my worldly possessions, and most importantly, the trust of my friends and family.”

The idea of having a web site that promotes your business automatically – eventually turning into a cash cow for you without much effort on your part – is an idea almost as old as the Internet itself. In fact, ever since businesspeople and entrepreneurs became aware of the amazing profit potential that the Internet holds, people have been trying to find effective ways to easily make money online.

But, with hundreds of millions of web sites out there today, it is no wonder that people who make a foray into this realm are not only unprepared, but are surprised to find out how much work it can take to actually turn a profit online.

Of course, it pays to know the tricks and techniques to make an Internet marketing site profitable. If you plan to build an Internet marketing promotional site and market it successfully, the web design and promotional methods and techniques you use need to be bulletproof. By mastering some very basic steps in the process, you can then be prepared to graduate to more advanced techniques.

Here are 5 tips for designing and promoting an Internet marketing promotional site that works:

1. Make your site’s purpose clear to all visitors:

Most website developers are guilty of the same crime: assuming that all visitors to their site immediately understand the purpose of the site, whom it targets, and what it offers. It turns out that it requires a considerable amount of careful forethought to design a site that is so clearly messaged it can answer these 3 questions for first-time visitors within just 5-10 seconds of landing there. But, it is worth making that effort. If you are not successful at doing this, the majority of your first-time visitors will go away, never to return.

2. Create a (user) path to profits:

For each site you build, users need to have a clear and unobstructed path from your landing page (usually the Home Page) to the place where they can give you money, join your list, etc. Don’t make the customer jump through hoops to get this done.

3. Optimize the content:

Every page of your site should be optimized for at least one keyword. The content, meta tags, and backlinks to the page need to be in harmony with each other and optimized for that keyword.

4. Drive lots of quality traffic:

Once you have built it, do NOT just assume that they will come. No, to generate a lot of website traffic, you will need to use pay-per-click ad marketing (PPC) or content-based marketing (articles, blogs, etc.) to drive people there. Once your site is built, most of your time should be spent doing that.

5. Set goals, measure results, and adjust – then repeat:

Success in this game comes by fits and starts; sometimes, it feels like three steps forward, two steps back. This can get discouraging if you check your progress each day, getting overly excited after a good day and then being depressed when sales are slow. Spare yourself the roller coaster ride.

Instead, check in with your sales and visit results every 3-7 days at most. And, keep meticulous records on all relevant data like number web visits, time on page, top content visited, and of course sales. Only by setting site visit and site sales goals, measuring results and then taking new actions accordingly will you be able to make any real progress. Choose to live and die by the numbers – they speak the truth!

Follow these 5 tips for designing and promoting an Internet marketing web site for maximum profitability.

Friday, November 7, 2014 Albuquerque, New Mexico — Online entertainment is a booming market, and plenty of players are making their play; back in March of this year The Walt Disney Company bought the multi-channel network Maker Studios. What is web entertainment, and the arts therein? And, who are the people venturing into this field? Wikinews interviewed Mario Lucero and Isabel Ruiz, the founders of Heaven Sent Gaming, a small entertainment team. This group has been responsible for several publications, within several different media formats; one successful example was aywv, a gaming news website, which was #1 in Gaming on YouTube in 2009, from September to November; Heaven Sent Gaming was also the subject of a referential book, released in 2014, entitled Internet Legends – Heaven Sent Gaming.

Before anybody looks down their nose for my self-created, stay-at-home-mom drama, allow me to say that I dont care what anybody says, and my silly drama is no more or less silly than the drama about the employee who never follows dress code, the boss who mispronounces his employee of ten years name or the gum clicker that sits in the adjacent cubicle. Now that I have that out of the way, I have a bone to pick with park freeloaders. Let me be specific and say that this is a grown up created problem and not a kid created problem; however, these toy mooching parents should not be shocked when their children are thirty and are still doing their grocery shopping in their parents pantry. And yes, on occasion I have done that very thing. But I am not thirty, and perhaps my mom didnt bring toys for me to play with at the playground.

Here is my beef. There are several parents and their children that regularly frequent the Monkey Boys favorite park. The park is gorgeous. It has a majestic mountain backdrop, fabulous desert scenery and well laid out park equipment with ample shade. There are great bike paths and plenty of space to play a game of catch or for your child to run away from you at break neck speed chasing after a rogue bunny rabbit. Here is the thing, while all of these amenities sound fabulous to an adult, to a kid they can become rather blas. If you plan on spending a decent amount of time at the park, it is best to bring things from home for your kid to play with because they will undoubtedly want to play with something other than what is there in front of them; especially if they see other kids playing with toys. Any stay at home parent who relies on a weekly park trip to regain some peace and sanity knows that you have to BYOG (bring your own gear). Some parents, however, like to rely on other parents to put in the extra work. They are the freeloaders; probably the same people in college that did not take their own notes or bring their own beer.

My son and I cringe when we see them coming, and for the record I do not tell my son that I find these people obnoxious in the same way that I find the Jersey Shore obnoxious. Their kids make a bee line for the sand box area, where most of the well prepared parents congregate. Their eyes are greedy, and I am pretty sure I have seen at least a few foam at the mouth. They walk over to the toys, well before their parents get there and start grabbing like it is Black Friday. Suddenly, children that have brought their own toys to enjoy and play with are put into a tailspin. They look at their parents with a mixture of fear and rage; fear that their favorite toy may be ruined or stolen and rage that these stinking freeloaders have shown up once again without bringing toys.

Finally, the parent freeloaders show up with their same tired story. Oh, ask if it is okay if you play with that toy, or I just cant seem to remember to bring your own toys. Liar! These people are not even trying to remember to wipe their kids nose, let alone bring a stinking shovel and pail. I agree that children need to learn to share, but the idea of sharing is that to a certain extent it should benefit both participants in a symbiotic type of relationship. If a child wants to play with my son and his toys, then sharing is benefitting the both of them; however, if a child wants my kids toy, and then runs off with it for the next half hour, my kid is getting the short end of the stick.

Most parents give in to the freeloaders. They demand their children to share against their will because they feel as though it is in some way going to make them well rounded or perhaps they feel intimidated, but I decided to take a stand. Instead of forcing my child to give up his favorite motorcycle to the pint sized moocher, I ask him if he wants to share. It is a choice, right? The freeloaders give me a confused look as though I have asked my son to recite the quadratic equation, but it doesnt bother me. Sometimes my child says no, and other times he says that the kid can only play with it next to him. My son understands that sharing is a nice thing to do, but that he doesnt have to go without during a time that is supposed to be fun just for the simple sake of sharing. He also understands that if somebody has a toy that he wants, that child has the right to share or not to share. To share or not to share, it is not a question, but rather a choice!

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Over 40 children have died in an outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in China, and the country’s capital of Beijing reported its first death due to the disease on Wednesday. According to Xinhua News Agency, Beijing Health Bureau spokeswoman Deng Xiaohong said that the 13-month-old boy died Sunday while en route to the hospital. Health authorities state that 24,934 children in mainland China are afflicted with the disease, and 42 children have died from it. The cause of the disease has been identified as Enterovirus 71 (EV-71). HFMD can also be caused by Coxsackievirus.

Another child infected with the virus died Monday, but as he died in Hebei province his death was counted there. Xinhua News Agency also reported that a 21-month-old boy died Monday of the virus in Hubei province. After an order was given last week by the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China that all cases must be reported, the count of those infected has increased markedly.

Eastern China saw a large number of cases in early March, but this information was not made public until late April. In March, Children under age six in eastern Anhui province began being admitted to hospitals with symptoms of the virus, and the outbreak spread quickly after that. The city of Fuyang in Anhui province was especially hard-hit by the outbreak. “The majority of patients who were in critical condition have recovered,” said a Health Ministry official in a statement on Monday. As of Monday, 3,606 HFMD infections had been reported in Beijing. Deaths have occurred in the provinces of Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hunan, Zhejiang, Beijing and Hubei.

What I know is the death rate has gone down drastically since early May.

“What I know is the death rate has gone down drastically since early May. There are very, very few cases with complications — 99 percent of these are mild cases,” said World Health Organization (WHO) China representative Hans Troedsson in a statement on Wednesday. Incidents of the disease are expected to peak in June and July.

Children with mild cases of the disease generally recover rapidly after manifesting a rash and a fever. Other symptoms include diarrhea, cold-like symptoms, and sores on the extremities and mouth. In severe cases, fluid may accumulate in the brain, and result in meningitis, encephalitis, pulmonary edema, paralysis and death. The EV-71 virus is spread through contact with fluid secreted from blisters, nose and throat mucus, feces and saliva. There is no specific treatment or vaccine for the virus. The disease is unrelated to foot-and-mouth disease, which affects livestock.

China is confident that it can control the spread of the disease with effective prevention methods.

United States Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt was visiting in the country, and said in a statement Monday in Shanghai that the U.S. is assisting China fight the outbreak. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, symptomatic treatment can be given to address possible fever and aches and pains. The CDC advises children and adults to practice proper hand washing technique, and to wash and disinfect contaminated items and surfaces using diluted solution of chlorine-containing bleach.

China is also dealing with a magnitude-7.9 earthquake which hit the country Monday and has killed almost 15,000. The outbreak is a concern to the government, as the country prepares for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing this August. “We are confident the potential outbreak will not affect the Beijing Olympic Games,” China’s Health Ministry spokesman Mao Qunan stated. And at a joint press conference held by China’s Ministry of Health and the WHO, he further noted that, “China is confident that it can control the spread of the disease with effective prevention methods.”
