At the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) conference, a resolution was passed that encourages the Government of Saskatchewan, Canada to place a moratorium on specialty livestock farms raising wild boar. All wild boars that have escaped to roam wild should be killed, according to the resolution.

Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud endorses a ban on wild boar farming. The wild boar population is expanding exponentially. There are over 2,000 feral Sus scrofa swine roaming the prairies. Two litters of approximately 12 piglets are sired by each wild boar sow every year. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) likewise passed a similar resolution at their 79th annual convention to urge the Saskatchewan Government to declare the wild boar as a nuisance species which can be killed on sight.

3% of farmed “wild” boars escape. Cells of wild boars are ravenous creatures killing and eating everything in their path. Horses, cows, and other livestock run from wild boars, breaking through fences in the process.

Ostriches, emus, llamas, alpacas, reindeer, wild boar, and fallow deer were amongst the animals introduced to farms in Saskatchewan during the agricultural diversification program in the late 1970s. Production of wild boars was promoted throughout the 1980s.

According to the Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food 2001 statistics, there were 150 wild boar producers raising approximately 15,000 and 20,000 head. Of these there were about 2,700 sows. On the 2006 Census of Agriculture, 401 farms reported 4,926 boars.

The boar’s red meat is an export commodity to Europe and Asia. The live breeding stock are also sold to trophy hunt ranches. Full blooded wild boar and hybrid crosses are raised.

Diamond Brownridge, a 5-year old girl from Chicago, Illinois, has died after a visit to the dentist. Children’s Memorial Hospital officials say that the girl was rushed to the hospital when she never woke up after being sedated for a dental procedure. She had been in a coma, on life support, since being admitted to the hospital early in the weekend.

“She passed very peacefully and beautifully,” said the hospital in a statement that the family issued.

Ommettress Travis, the mother of the girl, was asked not to remain inside the room while dentists were operating on the girl to repair two cavities and to have at least two caps replaced. Travis says after thirty minutes she was asked to come back in and found Brownridge not breathing, in the dentist chair.

Hicham Riba, a specialist and professional in anesthesia, who was also licensed, was the dentist in charge of the procedure.

“My family and I are so sad. May God bless Diamond and her family. Every time you have a tragedy like this, you pray more. I don’t think I will ever go back to a normal life after an experience like this,” Riba said in a statement on Wednesday, September 28.

According to the family, the girl had been given at least a triple dose of medicine that sedated her. Those drugs include: nitrous oxide gas, a single dose of an “oral agent” and an IV.

A judge has ordered that all equipment and materials used during the operation be protected and examined. The girl’s medical records have also been ordered to be examined.

There is no word on whether or not any charges will be filed against Riba or any of the dentist’s staff.

It takes hard work and dedication to go through the schooling it takes to gain access to pharmacist jobs. These careers are very well paying and are considered to be a rewarding career choice. From acute pharmacists to hospital pharmacists, nuclear and long-term care pharmacists, there is a multitude of choices when it comes to this particular career.

All job applicants must have at least two to four years of schooling in this field to be considered for a position. In order to acquire the proper skills needed in these trades, one must complete the proper training. Some schools offer two year programs while others offer four years or more and classes can be taken online or on campus per student choice.

Hospitals everywhere need ambulatory, hospital, and floater pharmacists in order to care for patients. These trained specialists provide excellent much needed care and medication to patients of all ages. Floater pharmacists get to travel to different hospitals and pharmacies to provide care for patients and sometimes provide training to new employees.

Nuclear pharmacists work more directly with medications and the ingredients that make up certain medications. This particular position is one of the more high paying jobs available, though it does require extensive schooling. This type of job is done primarily in labs and technology rooms of universities specializing in pharmaceuticals.

Two to four years, in some cases more depending on the career choice, does not seem like much considering this career path is one of the highest paid choices available. With ample opportunities for job placement and benefits, pharmaceutical students should never have a problem finding a great job. Most pharmacies and the like provide their employees with great benefits and yearly programs to help them stay in the know about new medications and procedures provided to patients.

The job of a pharmacist, no matter what kind of work they do, always ends up being rewarding. Not just financially but personally as well. They get to create interesting and very special relationships with clients and patients. They also get to provide the necessary medications that can help save the lives of many patients. Helping save lives makes this type of work more rewarding than most like to assume.

Some provide long-term care for patients, others get to travel all over and train new pharmacists, while others get to actually help create medications that heal and help save lives of patients everywhere. Pharmacies will always be around, and will always need dedicated and knowledgeable staff to help take care of patients. Pharmacy careers are affordable in most cases to achieve, and are very well compensating.

Pharmacist jobs are everywhere and pharmacies are always looking to hire the best of the best. Two to four or more years of schooling could reap a lifetime of benefits and close friendships for those interested. Going online and researching different pharmaceutical schools and types of classes is highly recommended and could help interests turn into realities in as little as two to four years.

Seven weeks after citizens of the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve repossessed land near Caledonia, Ontario, on February 28, the Ontario Provincial Police, who have authority from a court to arrest the protesters for contempt of court, have yet to act.

On April 11, more than 50 police cruisers, two paddy wagons, and several vans gathered outside an abandoned school on Unity Road in Caledonia. However, reports from last night are that visible police presence is minimal, with just a few police cruisers parked down the road from the protest site.

Before the site was blocked, Henco Industries had begun construction on 10 luxury homes out of a total of 71 scheduled to be built as part of the $6 million Douglas Creek Estates subdivision.

The tract of land under dispute was registered as a land claim by the Six Nations Band Council in 1987 but its status has yet to be settled. The land originally made up part of a large land grant given in 1784 to the Six Nations for services rendered during the American War of Independence. The government and the developer claim that the Six Nations surrendered title in 1841, but the Band disputes this.

The protesters are demanding a nation-to-nation dialogue with the Canadian government and continue to call for a peaceful resolution. Some protesters, however, have stated that if the OPP forcefully try to remove them, they will defend their land with force.

“If they break the peace, we’ll do what we have to do,” said protester Dick Hill. “Things are very tense. We are trying to defend our lands, which were taken from us. Every time we try to stand up for who we are and what we are, they come and drag us away.”

An injunction was issued to the development company a month ago that allowed for the protesters to be removed. Police have not enforced the injunction.

However, David Ramsay, Ontario’s Aboriginal Affairs Minister, said that the province was going to have a meeting with both protesters and developers in an attempt to address their concerns.

“This is a very serious situation. I have to be very hopeful that we’re going to see a peaceful end to this situation. We think we can resolve this by negotiating, and by talking so that’s what we’re doing,” added Ramsay.

The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website (for requesting disaster aid) is only functional for applicants using the latest version of the Internet Explorer web browser on the Microsoft Windows operating system. Users with other web browsers, such as Netscape, Opera, Safari, Firefox, or operating systems other than Windows, are effectively screened out of the site, which gives them a message that they need to download Internet Explorer version 6 or call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 to register.

Relief workers are setting up many computer kiosks for evacuees to use. These kiosks are built from donated computers, many of which are unable to run Windows and/or Internet Explorer. Most of these kiosks use LiveCD versions of Linux, leaving evacuees unable to fill out aid forms.

A spokesperson for FEMA told MSNBC they were aware of the problem, and were trying to resolve the issue. They were, however, unable to provide an estimate of when the problem would be solved. Mike Quealy, a FEMA spokesperson, said the issue occurred because this tool was originally designed for in-house use by people working at the call center.

Telling the Opera web browser to spoof its user agent, by identifying itself as Internet Explorer, appears to trick the FEMA website into allowing the user to fill out the form. Firefox users can install the Prefbar extension (http://prefbar.mozdev.org/), and use the “User Agent Spoof” dropdown to achieve the same effect. Safari users can use the Debug drop-down menu (http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/faq.html#anchor14), and use the “User Agent” option to achieve the same effect. Other options are to run Windows and Internet Explorer in an emulator such as VirtualPC on the Mac or VMware on Linux. This option is slow and requires the user to already own or purchase a license for Windows and the emulator software. Purchasing the software can cost several hundred dollars. Implementing a software compatibility layer, like the GPL wine project, allows the user to run certain Windows software on Linux, but still requires valid licenses for Windows.

The Internet group Project Chanology today held protests critical of the Church of Scientology. The protests marked what would have been the 49th birthday of Lisa McPherson, who is claimed to be a victim of the Church of Scientology’s practices. Lisa died in 1995 during a running of what Scientologists refer to as an Introspection Rundown, a procedure intended to help Church members deal with a psychotic or deeply traumatic event.

Protests were planned throughout the day in 14 countries and over 50 different cities. The estimation of total protesters world wide for Feb. 10, 2008 is 9,250 people.

Wikinews had correspondents at a number of protest locations to report on the events. This article was updated throughout the day with reports from around the globe.

Phantom Linear Lighting Strips can be used to build entire cabinet lighting systems for displays, book shelves, break fronts, antique cases, armoires, and custom kitchen cabinets. Their low profile design allows them to be concealed along the interior of interior vertical or horizontal cabinet surfaces. Our patented shelf support and buss bar technology eliminate the need for external, visible wiring, making our cabinet lighting fixtures much easier to conceal, and allowing the collector to move the shelves at will when cleaning and redecorating.

Phantom cabinet lighting systems are the only decorative luminaires that can be customized exactly to the furniture they illuminate with minimum cutting or drilling. These linear light strips can be fitted with any number of LED, xenon, and incandescent festoon lamping options to create the color temperature most appropriate to the quality and texture of the furnishing itself and any contents on display within its interior. These wireless undercabinet lighting strips are fully dimmable, giving the end-user full control over lighting levels and power consumption at all times.

Display Cabinet Lighting Systems

Phantom linear strips can be mounted in any number of unique positions within display cases, armoires, breakfronts, corner cabinets, and free standing book cases. Because each linear lighting strip is custom manufactured to the precise dimensions of an interior horizontal or vertical cabinet surface, it is possible to completely conceal our cabinet lighting systems in most antique and reproduction display cases. For breakfronts and display cases that measure 30 or more in height, vertical strip lights are normally mounted on the interior surface of the vertical styles. For display cases with a large horizontal space that significantly exceeds vertical space, we often install horizontal cabinet strip lights along the interior header–shining indirect, ambient light into the entirety of the cabinets interior cubic space. Furniture with shelving, such as bookshelves and antiques, can be lit by concealing lights under the surface of each shelf near the front. The light shines backward and downward, illuminating space, contents, and shelving below.

Not every cabinet was made with a lighting system in mind, however. Many furniture pieces were designed to be enjoyed only in the daytime and gave little or no consideration to the need for any type of interior lighting after sunset. This accounts for why many very old breakfronts and antique china cabinets lack any sort of header or vertical styles. To conceal our custom furniture lights in these furnishings, we work around this challenge by custom building each lighting strip to fit the vertical interior surface of the cabinet door. Even though a visitor may open the glass door and expose the shelf light strips, the compact, wireless design of these low voltage cabinet lights nonetheless maintains a sufficiently aesthetic presentation as to compliment the overall attractiveness of the piece.

Kitchen Cabinet Lighting Systems

Phantom builds both undercabinet lighting and in cabinet lighting systems for modern kitchens whose function and aesthetic rely heavily on custom cabinetry. Almost every cabinet will be unique to its own respective kitchen, which is why it is so important to use a cabinet lighting system that is equally customized to the furnishings and environment it is intended to illuminate. With Phantom, homeowners experience a number of benefits that cannot be obtained from incandescent strip lights or large fluorescent undercabinet lighting systems,

A good example of this is Phantoms unique color selections and glare shielding technology. Phantom strips mount near the front of the cabinet and feature special optics and shields that direct the light toward the wall in the back. Most linear lights mount toward the rear and shine light forward, which then reflects upward from countertops and appliances and into peoples eyes. If guests are seated at nearby tables below normal eye level, the light from incandescent and fluorescent fixtures may actually shine directly into their eyescreating even more of an annoyance.

Simply by changing the angle of incidence, our hidden cabinet lighting systems transform glare into aesthetic and protect the balance of interior design when viewed from tables and chairs. This works toward creating a warmer, more complimentary aesthetic form of showcase lighting both under the cabinet glow and within.

Steve Kubby who was facing extradition from Canada, returned to California, was arrested, and is now in custody in Placer County, California Jail, pending a hearing today. He is a medical cannabis patient who relies on the drug to regulate the symptoms of malignant phenochromocytoma, a cancer of the adrenal gland which can cause the level of adrenaline in his system to fluctuate out of control. If left unregulated, this can result in sudden, fatal heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, and a variety of other conditions.

Kubby was arrested on arrival at San Francisco International Airport Thursday night on behalf of the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, having exhausted his extradition appeals in Canada. He was taken to San Mateo County Jail, pending transport to Placer County Jail. While at San Mateo County Jail, he was reportedly denied access to medication and sufficient bedding. On arrival at Placer County Jail, his blood pressure was dangerously high, and so was given Marinol, a THC synthetic.

Communication with Kubby is highly restricted. According to his wife, Michele, Kubby has been placed in solitary confinement, denied access several times to sufficient bedding to keep him warm, and denied access to the cannabis which, according to several experts on his universally fatal condition, has been solely responsible for keeping him alive for decades. The Marinol he is being given partially mitigates his symptoms, but does not completely control them. He now grows dangerously ill.

In particular, he relates how he was ordered by prison medical staff to take beta-blockers for his blood-pressure. Due to the episodic nature of the adrenaline spikes causing the high blood-pressure, according to all of his doctors, the beta-blockers would likely kill him once the spikes dropped. In an interview by phone with journalist Pat McCartney over the weekend, Kubby reported that, for refusing the beta-blockers, he was coerced into signing a waiver absolving the prison of liability, and has since been refused all care, including even Tylenol for pain management.

Activists concerned with medical marijuana, human rights and prison reform will hold a rally at noon today in front of the Placer County Superior Courthouse, where Steve Kubby is scheduled to be arraigned on violation of probation charges.

Kubby was a co-author of California’s Compassionate Use Act of 1996, also known as Proposition 215. He fled to Canada in 2001 to escape the possibility of incarceration for an extended period without access to cannabis, a possibility which, in both his and expert medical opinion, would certainly prove fatal.
