Two people have died as the result of a one-vehicle road traffic accident in Inverness, Scotland. The two occupants of the vehicle were both teenagers, with one being male and the other being female. Neither have been publicly identified.

They were both travelling in a black Škoda Fabia vRS at approximately 0920 BST on Sunday when they attempted to negotiate a corner and ended up colliding with a stone wall and a tree, according to witnesses. One bystander stated that the vehicle also impacted into a street light. According to a report from a person who sighted the collision: “The car destroyed a lamp-post and then demolished a 12 inch thick wall scattering huge chunks of stone and sending one big piece 20 metres down the road. The car then appears to have carried on into the garden and hit a big pine tree.”

After the emergency services arrived at the scene of the collision, the road was occluded, during which time members of the fire service physically removed the bodies of the teenagers from the remains of the Škoda. They were then transported to Raigmore Hospital. According to a statement from a spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary: “Following a single vehicle road traffic collision at approximately 9.18 on Sunday morning on Islandbank Road, Inverness, one young man and one young female suffered fatal injuries.”

Safety Practices When Using Tools

by

redwriterA lot of us have worked for an employer and had a supervisor or boss that alwaysinsisted on safety factors. When working as a DIY at home we have a tendency tonot follow the safety rules that we did as an employee. There are certain safety rules to follow regardless of the type of tool you are using. Here are just a few. * Always use eye protection when using a tool. * Wear hearing protection if using a power tool. * Wear proper apparel, loose clothing can get caught on moving parts. * Read instructions for the tool you are using. * Be aware of your surroundings, especially people. * Always use the right tool for the job, don’t use wrench as a hammer. * Use a bag or a bucket to carry your tools when climbing a ladder. * Make sure you stand on a solid surface that don’t move. * Use a GFI circuit if using an electric tool outside. * Wear work gloves where possible when using hand tools. * If using a power tool, never carry it by the cord. When using power tools, there are certain other safety rules that apply to the particular tool or equipment that you are using.TABLE SAW * Never stand directly in front of the saw when in operation. Stand to the side so that any particles that fly out from the wood will either miss you or will not hit you in the face. * Always use a sharp blade. * Wear a face mask if there is no dust collection system. * Always use a push stick or push block. Do not feed material thru by hand. * Do not try to adjust the saw while it is running. * Do not leave the saw until the blade has stopped turning. * Always use the fence or miter gauge, do not make cuts free hand. * Unplug the saw from power source when making adjustments or when not using.Electric Tools * Never carry electric tools by their cord. * Don’t jerk or yank the cord from its power receptacle. * Don’t power an electric tool from an outside receptacle unless it is a GFI. * Make sure switch is in off position before connecting to power source. * Do not leave tool running or unattended when not in use. * Always disconnect tool from power source before leaving the area.Air Tools * Never point an air tool at someone especially a nail gun. * Make sure pressure being used does not exceed manufacturer’s specification. * Never carry and air tool by its hose. * Use only the attachments that the tool is designed for. * Turn off compressor and disconnect hose from tool when finished. There are many more safety features that we should adhere to when using any kindof power tool but they all can’t be put in this article. The thing to rememberis to read the owners manual and/or operating instructions before using any power tool. This will help keep you safer on what ever tool you are using.”Safety first” should be your motto when working with any power tool.

Windsor Castle, one of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom’s official residences, is to get a hydro-electric power scheme.

The £1 million project will consist of a series of under-water turbines to be installed at Romney Weir in the nearby River Thames. The system will generate 200kW, enough to meet approximately one third of the castle’s electricity needs.

The electricity from the four turbines will not be sold into the local electricity grid, but will instead be directly connected to Windsor Castle’s electrical system. It will save 600 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year.

The scheme was announced after it gained planning permission from the local council, the plans having been submitted in February of last year. A feasability study will now be conducted, with construction scheduled to start next year.

The Windsor Castle is not the only environmentally-friendly Royal scheme. A borehole beneath Buckingham Palace provides cold water for air-conditioning and the Duke of Edinburgh’s taxi runs on liquid petroleum gas.

Queensland, Australia police have charged a 57-year-old woman with the alleged contamination of the salad bar at two Sizzler restaurants.

Rat poison pellets were found in food at Sizzler restaurants at Toowong on January 20 and the Brisbane Myer Centre outlet last Sunday. Yesterday Sizzler closed salad bars nationwide, but they did not report the incidents to the Queensland Health Department until last Monday.

Queensland’s Health Minister Stephen Robertson criticised the restaurant chain for delaying reporting a possible incident of food contamination for 37 days. “I think this is a case that – a real life case – that we should perhaps learn some lessons from,” he said.

Queensland Police Inspector Bob Hytch said the woman is the same woman police asked to come forward after she told Sizzler staff she had found pellets in soup at the Myer Centre restaurant last Saturday.

The woman is expected to face Brisbane Magistrates’ Court tomorrow charged with two counts of contamination of goods and four counts of an act intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

Nintendo has released its newest video game console in North America. Known as the Wii, the system and games have an MSRP of US$249.99 and US$49.99 respectively. The North American release is to be followed by the December 2nd launch in Japan and the December 8th launch in Europe.

Launched officially at midnight, more than a thousand people gathered in New York’s Time Square to be among the first to buy one of the Wii. In contrast to the crowds that have challenged crowd control officials over the last two days in connection with the launch of Sony’s Playstation 3, the Wii crowds have been much calmer. Many observers attribute this to the fact that Nintendo had more than ten times as many Wii consoles available on launching day than Sony did for their PS3 that had been hounded by part shortages in manufacturing right up to the day of launch.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that several tough choices had been made in the design of the Wii. The company decided to develop a new way of playing games with revolutionary controllers instead of following the PS3 and the Xbox down the road of stunning graphic and multimedia options. This produced a console with a much talked-about sensor/controller design and the lowest price point of the three major consoles. While not having a DVD player or high-definition TV capabilities, the Wii retails for about $250 while its competitors the Xbox 360 and PS3 retail for about $400 and $600 respectively.

While the Wii will launch with several games available, one of its advertised advantages is that the new console is largely compatible with older games made for the GameCube, giving the new console an instant and extensive launching library. A GameCube controller will be needed to play GameCube games with the Wii. Several hardware items that GameCube games may be expecting, such as the modem or broadband adapter or the GameBoy player are not supported on the Wii.

Across the country in Los Angeles about 500 people were waiting for the doors to open at Universal City Walk’s Game Stop store. Fearing that the Wii introduction might be as contentious as the PS3 debut just a few days ago, the store handed out numbered wristbands to the throng. No problems were reported.

Litho vs Digital Printing

by

smithwalker

20 years ago, digital printing was only good for quick print jobs and office print, and it was not very popular. But in the mid 90`s this trend changed with the arrival of new high-technology printers such as HP Indigo, Xerox, etc that showed the strong flexibility of digital printing. Since then, litho printing had to compete with digital printing to offer the best prices and the best quality. It can be difficult to select one instead of another because both of them have their own advantages.

Advantages of

litho printing

High image quality

Can print on different papers, plastics and films

Price is going down when the volume increases

Can print on large formats

Much faster printing process than digital printing

Advantages of digital printing

Short turnaround time

Short turn variable data printing

Less waste

Cheaper than off-set for low volumes

The di

fference of image quality with off-set is very small

Can use every software for data processing including pdf

Companies tend to explain that digital printing is the cheapest solution for a small amount of copies. And, on the opposite, off-set printing is by far the less expensive way to go for large volumes because digital printing is still much slower than off-set and offers only standard paper sizes.

But this affirmation is not always true. Large amounts can be cheaper with digital printing because this technique allows printing all colour pages at once without requiring an additional set-up. For sure the job by it-self will be done more quickly in off-set than in digital printing, but the time needed for the set-up and plate changes on the off-set printers will take much longer and will increase the cost.

How is Digital printing going to fit with today`s market?

After decades of the off-set domination, digital printing seems to have a significant advantage on its competitor now. Nowadays, companies want to personalise their documents, and on this market, Digital printing is very competitive. For quick turn time, emergency printings and short run jobs with no colour specifications, digital printing seems to be the right solution. Moreover, the digital printing improvements of these past few years such as the increase of the machine speed and of the sheets of paper used and the decrease of prices notably increased its competiveness on the print market.

Will digital printing overtake off-set?

Not now and not in the nearer future. Both technologies have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the most important point is that they can be combined. For example, you can print some pages in digital and use off-set to print images. It is obvious that digital and off-set printings both have their place on the printing industry, and they will continue to co-exist.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has investigated Milan and their goalkeeper Dida over the incident with the Celtic fan that led to his substitution against Celtic. A fan ran on to the field immediately after Celtic striker Scott McDonald scored the eventual winning goal and appeared to have slightly touched Dida. Dida ran after the fan for a few steps before falling to the ground. UEFA have already investigated Celtic for lack of security for the same incident.

The charges were based on Article 5 Paragraph 1 of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations, which states that “member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship”.

The case were heard on October 11 by UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body. The outcome of these cases were as follows: Celtic FC were fined £25000, 50% of which is kept in a reserve tank and if Celtic have any further problems in two years UEFA will keep it, but if they don’t they will get it back. A.C Milan goalkeeper Nelson de Jesus Silva “Dida” was banned for two games but is appealing. If found guilty he could find himself with a four-game champions league ban.

Irritable bowel syndrome (also known as IBS) is a chronic condition affecting the functioning of the gut. It causes abdominal pain and altered bowel movements. Around 20% of all people in the UK develop irritable bowel syndrome at some time in their lives; often when they are young adults.

This article will examine the common causes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)is a very common problem, but many people are embarrassed to talk about it which means that they do not seek help when they should.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) causes continuous abdominal pain and cramping, constipation and/or diarrhea and bloating. It can also be an underlying cause of headaches, non-cardiac related chest pain and lower back pain.

The exact cause of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is not clear, although scientists believe that it has something to do with over activity in parts of the gut and a change in the way the brain communicates with the GI tract. The reason that the exact cause of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is unknown is that no physical abnormalities have been found in sufferers to explain the symptoms.

Certain foods and stress seem to trigger the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, this has never been proven conclusively.

Intolerance to certain food such as dairy products, tea and coffee can trigger irritable bowel syndrome symptoms. However food sensitivity is thought to only cause irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in a small number of cases.

Stress can play a role in causing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) by leading to over activity of the nerves and/or gut. Around 50% of irritable bowel syndrome sufferers link stress with the onset of symptoms and their worsening during periods of anxiety.

Some people believe that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is caused by a continuing gut infection. However, this is not true although in some cases the onset of symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome comes after someone has been ill with gastroenteritis or has taken antibiotics. This implies that certain germs can bring on symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.
